Remember when dad took the training wheels off your bike for the first time? Remember the fear, the exhilaration, the first crash, more fear, and then tentative confidence as you began to get your balance? I feel that I am 6 years old again. After 28,000+ miles, I have had to learn to ride a bike all over again. Amnesia? A physical or mental problem? Nope, just bike rollers.
I have used an indoor bicycle trainer for years, which supports the back wheel of my bicycle. However, a few weeks ago, I got bicycle rollers. Bike rollers consist of 3 cylinders or rollers which your bike rides on top of. There are no supports. Suffice it to say that it's like riding on ice (or riding without training wheels for the first time). The first time on them, it took me 10 minutes before I could let go of the wall for more than a couple seconds. Now, after a few times on the rollers, I can put my arms in the aerobars, take a drink from a water bottle. And ... oh yeah, I've also had my first fall. |
